My Trip to Europe!

I had a wonderful trip to Europe last week, and I would like to tell you all about it!

The first part of my trip was to Essen, Germany to visit my great aunt and my mom's cousin. Essen is a small industrial town, and the purpose of our visit was only to spend time with our family. After a few days of relaxation we headed off to Paris where all the excitement began!

During our four day stay we visited several magnificent landmarks, such as: the Eiffel Tower, the Basilica of Sacred Heart, the Louvre, Palace of Versailles, Arc de Triomphe, and the Cathedral of Notre Dame.

Named after it's designer, Gustave Eiffel, the Eiffel Tower was built in 1889, and is the tallest building in Paris. It is the most visited paid monument in the world, and I can see why, because it's truly magnificent. My family and I took the elevator to the top and loved the spectacular view of Paris.

The Eiffel Tower

The Basilica of the Sacred Heart is a Roman Catholic church.  Located at the summit of Monmartre which is the highest point in Paris, it is a very popular landmark. Construction on the Basilica started in 1875 and was finished in 1914. Monmartre is the artistic center of Paris, where you see many artists drawing and displaying their art on the street. We enjoyed a lovely dinner at one of the many restaurants there.

The Basilica of the Sacred Heart

The Louvre Museum is one of the world's largest museums, and is the most visited art museum in the world. It is housed in the Louvre Palace and has almost 35,000 objects from prehistory to the 19th century. My favorite painting in the Louvre is the Mona Lisa, because of her mysterious smile and because regardless of the angle, it always seems like she is looking at you!

The Mona Lisa or as the French call it  La Joconde

Arc De Triomphe is a very famous monument in Paris. It is located at the western end of Champs Elysees which is one of the most famous streets in the world. It honors those who fought and died for France in the French Revolutionary and the Napoleonic Wars.

I hope you enjoyed my little tour of Paris!

Have you ever been to Paris?

If so, what is the favorite place you visited?

If not, where would you want to go in Paris?

Can you add any other facts about the landmarks I mentioned in this post?

  1. Dear Hannah,

I love how you showed all those pictures, but I have got to say that I think that the Eiffel Tower is my personal favorite.

Now let's get back to you. No, I have not been to Europe. Some day I would love to go because I have heard so many great things about it.

    Your friend,

    Hannah Joon,

Wow! What a marvelous post about your trip to Europe! I love all the photos, they really bring your post to life.

I am so happy that you were able to spend some quality time with our wonderful relatives in Germany. I was there myself at exactly the same time last year and had a wonderful and relaxing time also.

The second part of your trip which was to Paris, sounds so much fun! I went to Paris many years ago and visited some of the same places that you did. I loved the Eiffel Tower and I thought that the Louvre was truly amazing. I visited some other wonderful museums also, however I don't remember their names! I think it's time for me to go back and have some of those delicious croissants that you can only find in Paris!

As always, job well done! I look forward to your future posts.

    Much love,
    Khaleh Minoo

  3. Hi Hannah,
Wow, what a fantastic trip. You're one lucky person. Sadly, I have never been to Paris. It's very far from Australia, and it's quite an expensive undertaking.

If I were able to go one day, I think I would like to sit on a bench by the water somewhere and watch all the glamorous people go by. Then I would probably buy a baguette and some nice cheese and have a picnic, before going to see some art.

Thanks for such an informative post.

  4. Wow Hannah, what a great post, I can't believe you are only 9 years old. I see a future career for you in blogging, for sure!

Paris is my favourite city in the world and you did a wonderful job describing it. Bien fait!

  5. I am SO impressed with your quality and detail of your blog! I teach 3rd grade in Kansas and will DEFINITELY use your blog as a great example for my students to follow! Bravo!

  6. Aloha Hannah,
What a wonderful post about your trip. Your writing was such that I felt I was right there with you. I have never been to Paris but if I did have the opportunity I would be happy to sit at an outdoor cafe and just people watch.
Thank you for taking me along on your fabulous trip!
    A hui hou,
    Mrs. Jacobs

  7. Dear Hannah,

Your trip sounds fantastic! We visited Paris this summer and were able to see all of these same sights, and a few more. Reading your descriptions and seeing the pictures reminded me of what fun we all had!

Sacre Coeur was by far our favorite church; the stained glass and mosaic details were just incredible. We also visited a Salvator Dali museum nearby which was quite unusual! Sadly, it was pouring rain when we visited the Eiffel Tower, so our trip up the elevator was not nearly as much fun. Fortunately, we were there for Bastille Day, so we did enjoy the fireworks near the Eiffel Tower that evening. It didn't get dark until 10 p.m., so the fireworks show went on quite late!

Thank you for sharing your experiences in your blog. You have a great aptitude for descriptive writing, so keep up the good work! And please give Mrs. Yollis a hug from us ... my daughter, Natalie is now a junior at Calabasas High, but she had Mrs. Yollis in third grade too and she is still one of our favorite teachers ever!

  8. Hello Hannah,
I feel like I just had my first trip to Paris by reading your blog. You did a fantastic job of describing what you did and what you saw. If I get to go to Paris for real I will definitely visit the places you told us about.

Like my friend, JoAnn Jacobs, commented above, one thing I would like to do while in Paris is just "people watch". I have traveled to England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, but have never been to Paris yet. One of these days I plan to do so though.

Thanks for sharing your trip with your readers. I hope you get to travel many times and to many great destinations.

  9. Bonjour Hannah!

Wow! What an amazing trip! It sounds like you got to experience so much of my favorite city to travel to in the whole world! (I love it so much that I have pictures, sculptures, and other artwork of Paris all over my house - inside and out.) My favorite part of visiting Paris is reading and speaking French. It is my passion, so being there, immersed in the language, is heaven for me. Did you learn to say anything in French during your visit? Come by Room 15 one day, and you can practice speaking French with me. (Or maybe we can just share photos!)
A bientot! - (See you soon!)

  10. @ Kristen,

Thanks for your comment! The Eiffel Tower is one of my favorites also.

I hope one day you get a chance to visit Paris, I think that you would love it!

    Your friend,

  11. Dear Khaleh Minoo,

Thank you for your lovely compliment! I am glad you liked my photos.

I agree with you about those croissants, they were so delicious! Every morning we had fresh ones at different cafes. I also really liked their hot chocolate, they were a great drink to go with your croissants!

I really think that you should go back to Paris one day! It is definitely a place to go more than once.

  12. @ Hannah,

Thank you for visiting my blog, and leaving me a comment!

Paris is also very far from Los Angeles, since we were visiting family in Germany, we decided to visit Paris.

Speaking of baguettes, we had wonderful ones in Paris! I really like your idea of people watching and having a picnic. We did some of that, but unfortunately our trip was short and there was too much to do and to see.

  13. @ Madame Duckworth,

Thank you for your wonderful compliment! I love blogging, but because of my busy schedule I don't have a lot of devote to it!

Paris is a beautiful city, and I can understand why so many people, including you, love it!

  14. Dear Mr. Mayer,

Thank you for your thoughtful compliments! Wow, I am so honored that you will be using my blog as an example for your third grade students. Thank you!

  15. Aloha Mrs. Jacobs,

I am so happy that you enjoyed my post and felt that you were with me in Paris!

Outdoor cafes are so popular in Paris, we saw hundreds of them. There are dozens on each street filled with people who do what you would like to do, people watch! I think you would definitely enjoy Paris if you ever got a chance to visit.

    A hui hou,

  16. Dear Mrs. Kuhny,

Thank you so much for visiting my blog and leaving such a quality comment! I really appreciate your kind compliments.

I loved Sacre Coeur also, it really is beautiful both inside and outside. It looks so magnificent when you are standing at the bottom of the hill and looking up at it. As for the Eiffel Tower, we really loved the twinkling lights that went on, on the hour.

Mrs. Yollis is one of my favorite teachers also, I will be sure to give her a hug for you when I see her!

  17. Dear Ms. Naugle,

I am so happy that reading my blog made you feel like you were in Paris! I hope that one day you will get a chance to visit this magnificent city. Sounds like you like traveling and you have visited many different places, maybe Paris will be next!

I hope that we both get to visit many exiting places around the world!

  18. Dear Madame Shipow,

Thank you for leaving a wonderful comment on my post!

I loved touring Paris, and the city is now my favorite place to travel as well as yours! It is truly an amazing place, so I understand why you love it!

While I was in Paris I didn't learn French, but I heard some words I already knew. My parents, who both speak french, talked for my sister and I the whole trip.

Maybe I'll drop in one day, and I can practice a little French with you!

    A bientot,

  19. Dear Hannah,

I love your post! You did a great job describing our trip to Europe! I especially like your description of all the wonderful places we went in Paris.

My favorite part of Paris was the beautiful Louvre. I loved all the amazing artwork mostly because of my passion for art. All the other places where also really magnificent.
